Welcome, and thank you for visiting Luisa Giordano Counselling. My name is Luisa Giordano and I am an BACP qualified integrative therapist/counsellor. I provide short- and long-term therapy to adult individuals in Poole, Dorset and offer a confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life. I offer counselling sessions face-to-face in a counselling studio in Poole, or online via zoom.
Sometimes when life feels complicated or difficult it can become very easy to feel overwhelmed. You might know exactly why you would like to begin therapy, or you may simply have a lingering feeling which has no clear or obvious explanation. Maybe you feel stuck inside a wheel of circling emotions, or that you are walking through a fog with no clear pathway to follow; perhaps you would like help to overcome a repetitive thought process, or you need some support to fully understand yourself.
Who am I?
I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, who come with a diverse range of problems. As a fully-qualified counsellor I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their code of ethics.
I have had training in trauma-informed therapy and I am experienced with working with clients who are living with the effects of complex trauma , attachment trauma and PTSD. I currently also work as a volunteer therapist within a local charity which supports and advocates for survivors of sexual trauma and domestic violence
I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence. I am a relational integrative therapist; this means that you and I will work together in partnership to navigate a way to support you to face whichever challenges you would like to overcome. Sometimes this can be achieved through short-term work (up to 12 weeks) and sometimes a contract for much longer work will be what you need.
Many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them. The development of relationship between me (the therapist), and you (the client) is the driving force of the way I work. Through the development of a trusted alliance we can begin to explore any vulnerabilities you bring safely, in order to make sense of them together.
Life can sometimes feel like looking into a mirror which may have become a little bit blurred. As we begin to work together we will look into that mirror each week- perhaps zooming in or zooming out to gain a sense of clarity. Often, the very act of ‘stepping away’ and looking with ‘different eyes’ will provide information to how you are thinking, feeling or responding in certain situations. It can feel very liberating to have this insight, and to choose to make changes if that is something you would like to do.

Initial assessment appointments can last up to 75 minutes. I work either face to face from a private studio located in a quiet part of Poole, Dorset, or online via Zoom. If you would prefer I can also offer telephone appointments. Sessions last for 50 minutes and are at the same time/day each week.
Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 24 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed.
I accept payment in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer. Please contact me if you would like more information on my sessions/fees.
I work from a private studio located in Poole, Dorset, and see clients from Bournemouth and Christchurch as well as the surrounding Corfe-Mullen, Wimborne and Ferndown areas. I will provide location details when we arrange our counselling sessions. In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions for clients via Zoom.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right counsellor/therapist to help.
The first contact may feel a little anxiety provoking, and it is perfectly normal to experience a little worry about it. I will do my very best to put you at ease so we can get to know each other and for us both to see if we are a 'good fit'. During the first session we will look briefly at your personal history and discuss any goals you would like to work towards, or any challenges you would like to overcome. There will also be essential administration to complete and I will explain how the privacy and safeguarding systems work.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
